In this fantastical dystopian society, the world is divided by blood. Red or Silver determines your fate. The Silver bloods rule the society of Norta, being blessed with god-like superpowers. They live like Kings and Queens, leaving the Reds to rot in their dust. Mare Barrow is a natural-born Red, forced to live in poverty with her growing family. Mare dreams of change but knows in her heart that her most genuine dreams will not find any validity in the real world. Mare, desperate to make money and provide for her family, takes a job at the Silver Palace, forced to serve the people she hates the most. Here, Mare finally learns what she's capable of. She discovers a secret, kept and passed down from generation to generation. Even though Mare possesses red blood, she, too, possesses great power. Mare can call upon lightning, her own unique ability, unlike anything they have ever seen. Panicked, the royal family of Norta takes Mare in, declaring her to be a lost Silver Princess and betrothing her to one of their sons. Now, Mare has become the exact thing she has hated the most. She is constantly battling with her reality and morals every day, forced to pick a side. She has been deemed a Silver and treated like royalty, but she knows she will always be a true Red. What does this mean for Mare? With her newfound powers and influence, what will she do next? Her decisions are only made more complicated when she falls for each of the Silver Princes. Each with different personalities and goals for their Kingdom, she must now make a choice, constantly battling her heart and mind. Will she do what she wants and believes to be correct, or will she do what's easy? The two are never aligned, which is undoubtedly the case for young Mare Barrow in Victoria Aveyard's beautiful novel, Red Queen.
